Dark Curse, coming out September 2, will be the most recent installment of the long-running "Dark" series by Christine Feehan. I've read the first three books of the series, and I'm intrigued. I'm afraid I won't be able to rush out and buy this when it comes out, for fear of reading the series out of order and learning something that is best learned by degrees.
Hopefully, I can catch up with the series and read it sometime in the lull between Fall releases and Spring releases, though it is doubtful.

This second book of a series by Karen Miller is coming out on September 1, 2008. I've seen her book in the bookstores when I browse, and I have to say I'm curious. It's just so much easier to stick with the authors I know.
Since this is turning into a series, or at leas a duology, I'm thinking about looking into this author...
What do you think?

I recently got into the Discworld series by Terry Pratchett. This series is a humorous, intelligently written series set in a fantasy world that offers as many mysteries and nonsense as a reader could possibly want.
Pratchett is not just a comic genius, either. His writing is very intelligent and you can catch many references in these books that, in some cases, may only be grasped by more well-rounded people. In fact, I'm sure that many things go over my head!
Bravo, Pratchett; you just made my habitual-author list.

I have recently discovered the "Dark" series by Christine Feehan, and I have to say that I'm pretty impressed. I happened upon the series after reading a review of some of the books I own that were written by Katie MacAlister. Apparently a couple of her books spoof on Feehan's series and I have to say that it seems to be the case, though in the case of both authors I must say that the stories are well worth reading.
The first book of the series is "Dark Prince". Ladies, check it out!

The Rogue Hunter, by Lynsay Sands will be out September 30, 2008. This is a continuation of her fantastic Argeneau series! I'm so happy to find out that she is not only continuing the series, but bringing in characters that aren't necessarily directly related to the Argeneau family.
After having three books published one after the other, it's been killing me to wait so long for the next book to come out.
Thank goodness the wait is almost over!

Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series has been turned into a comic. The full version of "Guilty Pleasures" is out there in print, and it so happens that The Laughing Corpse Issue #1 will be out on October 1, 2008.
Marvel has done a marvelous job (no pun intended) with turning these books into a visual medium. I am quite looking forward to tracking down Issue #1 of The Laughing Corpse.
I'll be the crazy brunette skipping out of the bookstore with a comic on October 1st; just stay out of the way so I can get home and read.

Princep's Fury will be the fifth insallment in the Codex Alera series by Jim Butcher.
Set in a place that is quite different form the modern-day beat of The Dresden Files, the Codex Alera series is a massively enjoyable series.
I really just can't wait to get my hands on Princep's Fury. I can guarantee I will be in stores as soon as I possibly can.
Unfortunately, I'll probably be in the middle of moving when the book comes out so it may be January before I have the chance to read it!

Anne Bishop, author of the Black Jewels Trilogy, the Tir Alainn Trilogy, the Ephemera duology, The Invisible Ring, and Tangled Webs is coming out with a new book in March 2009, entitled The Shadow Queen.
I have to admit, nothing has hit me with as much impact as The Black Jewels Trilogy and the following succession of short stories in Dreams Made Flesh, but I am still looking forward to The Shadow Queen.
Set in the world of the Black Jewels, the story is bound to give readers deeper insight in the way the lives of the characters in such a world intertwine.
So, keep an eye out in March!

I know that I post lots of reviews, but I hardly ever give very detailed information because I'm scared of ruining the plot. I do that because it is a pet peeve of mine for someone to go around giving away plot points when I'd rather discover the story on my own.
It bothers me for some know-it-all to come along and spoil it for the rest of us. I much prefer to be surprised.
However, I realize that not all people feel the way I do and in some cases would prefer a summary of the story that leaves out a few things rather than a review that leaves out everything.
Therefore I have determined that, if it gets positive feedback, I may begin to post summaries of stories for the sake of whatever readers may happen across this page.
So...what do you think, my audience?

Good news! I found this book in a used book store! It's so new that I was surprised to spot it and I was a little offended that someone had already traded it in there, but I was elated to find it because I've been keeping my eye out for this one. I'm about halfway through at the moment, and I'm loving it. Her historicals are always great fun, with a good dose of mystery and humor. I prefer her paranormals, especially the Argeneu series, but these are a nice, fun, break for me since I'm trying to spread out my genres into the more serious stuff.

I read The Little Prince very recently. My initial interest was brought on because it was mentioned in a romance series I was reading, and referenced throughout the story. Usually, that makes me curious about the book and I try to find it. Fortunately for me, The Little Prince was fairly easy to find because a friend of mine - equally curious about the book - took me to Barnes & Noble on my birthday and bought a copy for each of us.
This may qualify as a Children's book, but I would suggest that adults read it, too. Not read it to your children, but own a copy for your own personal library. The story is so wonderful, and carries such a simple and profound message to the reader. I absolutely love this little book, and if you take the time to read it, I think you will, too.

They're Christian fiction, and they're very, very good. I enjoyed reading them and I very happy to have my own copies. Even better: my copies have the original cover art!

Cross off the following:
Storm Front, by Jim Butcher
Single White Vampire, by Lynsay Sands

Add and then cross off:
Jovah's Angel, by Sharon Shinn
Fool Moon, by Jim Butcher

I have gotten my hands on, and read, each of these books and I can summarize them all in one word: wonderful.
Wonderful, wonderful. I really enjoyed all of these books.

Single White Vampire was up to par with the rest of Lynsay Sands' books, which means it brought the reader through the full range of emotions from laughing out loud to screaming at the book and/or characters.

Storm Front and Fool Moon were both wonderful and very different from the Dresden Files television show, which only served to make both the show and the books better in my eyes. I can see where the book wouldn't translate well into television, and I appreciate that I wasn't reading screenplay when I picked these books up. This series is, thus far, absolutely great and I praise Jim Butcher for his work; and the makers of the Dresden Files show for extrapolating enough to be true to the spirit of the books while writing something completely new and exciting.

I have yet to finish Jovah's Angel, and I have to say that it is, so far, quite good. It is, however, very different from what I expected to get my hands on and I'm not sure I'll be able to stick with the series since it isn't something that runs in chronological order. I really was hoping, fruitlessly, to see main characters from the previous book reappear peripherally. (That's always fun for me.) It still seems to have a wonderful premise, however and I look forward to finishing it soon.

A lot of what I read runs to satire when it comes to humor, but some of the situations and scenes in her books run to absurdity - which is more rare than you would think - and I thouroughly enjoy it.
I encourage you to visit her website and read the excerpt for this: LynsaySands.net
She's building up quite a list for her bibliography and I have yet to come across something of hers that I don't enjoy reading.

Grand High Poobah on "The Brat, by Lynsay Sands"

Lynsay Sands writes paranormal romance, but she also writes some historicals, which I like. The newest one will come out next month, May 2007 and is entitled the brat. Here's an excerpt from her webpage:

"WHO WOULD MARRY…

All the knights had heard tales of Lady Murie, King Edward III’s goddaughter and much feted favorite. It was said she was stunningly beautiful, with bright blue eyes, golden hair and a sweet smile. It was also said that the king had doted on the girl and spoiled her rotten. Despite his need, when Sir Balan saw her howling and sobbing, Murie was the last person he wanted to wed.

….THE BRAT?

But all that glitters is not gold, and sometimes diamonds look very, very rough. There was more to Murie than met the eye, and Balan soon learned that he’d be lucky indeed to deserve such a bride. Yet he was not the only one to discern the truth, and the other hopeful hubby was not quite as honorable. A plot was afoot. Soon would come a reckoning, a time to show who was chivalrous, who was a cad…and who had won the love of a heart unspoiled."

I highly recommend visiting her webpage, and reading her books. They are well worth the money. Her stories are wonderful, and if they don't make you laugh, then you have no soul. I love reading her books.

Right now I'm reading Maureen O'Hara's autobiography. So far, I'm really enjoying it. Her life has been interesting, and the tone of the book is both realistic and delightful. I'm nowhere near being finished as I just started reading it during my free time while I was doing a gig out of town, but so far I've had a good time reading it.
Three cheers for Maureen O'Hara.

I absolutely love these books. I honestly couldn't list all of the reasons in one sitting. They are wonderful - Anne Bishop is just a great writer and storyteller. I have read everything I can get my hands on, and while I love the Black Jewels trilogy best, I have really enjoyed all that she has written - even though some of it went places I didn't expect.

Grand High Poobah on "Looking forward to HP7?"

I'm looking forward to the HP7 book for two reasons:
1) I have it on reserve.
2) Snape.
I am driven mainly by curiosity and I want to know what is up with Snape. It's never quite been clear what side - if any - he's on and he's one character that I've never quite been able to peg, which is rare. I can usually peg a character in a book fairly quickly and easily - in a series there's more development and it takes me longer, but for Snape I've heard enough of arguments on both sides that it makes me unsure of him. Strange character, Snape.
Now - if any of you have the uncontrollable urge to buy the the entire HP series, please do so. I only have book one right now - heresy, I know, but I've read them all by borrowing books or by checking them out at the local public libraries. So, if you have the urge to buy a set as an act of benevolent kindness - send it to me! :D
